The zoom target for the mouse wheel when using the Rotate View tool (Dynamic Method) differs between versions of MicroStation.
BackgroundWhen selecting the Rotate View tool and selecting the Dynamic Method from the tool settings dialog, a large white cross appears showing what point will be used as the center of rotation. By default this point is centered in the view and at the active depth. Keep in mind, it can always be returned to this position with a Fit View.
This center mark can be dragged to any location in the model: position cursor over it (it displays thicker), enter a data point to pick it up, and another to move it. Reset cancels the move. AccuSnap works normally to facilitate positioning the center mark.
Behavior in MicroStation V8 2004 Edition and XMThe center mark will be used for the view rotation, but not for zooming in or out using the scroll wheel.
Behavior in MicroStation V8iThe center mark is used for all view operations, including zooming in and out with the scroll wheel. This makes zooming in and out with the scroll wheel more predictable and controllable.
Reason for the ChangeWhen using the Rotate View tool the cursor will be controlling the rotation of the view and therefore will be in a random position.
Notes • This change in behavior may take some getting used to, but in general it is a better implementation of the tool. • One can always exit the rotate view command and zoom with the scroll wheel using the cursor position. • The behavior described above assumes the mouse wheel preference is set to Zoom In/Out.
