How to move elements to different Z elevation

      Product: MicroStation
      Version: 08.05.00.64
      Environment: N\A
      Area: Manipulation
      Subarea: N\A

    Problem

How to move elements to different Z elevation?

    Solution

There are many tried and True Methods for moving elements to a desired Z elevation.
Here is a list of the most common:

    Use Align Edges
    1. Select the elements with a Fence or selection set.
    2. Start the Align Edges tool. (go to Tools>Main>Manipulate); set the Alignment to "Top".
    3. Select the Base Element (the element at the desired elevation).

    Notes:
    - Useful if an element is already at the desired elevation.
    - The selected elements will move to the same elevation as the base element.

Use Element Information (V8i and later).
    1. Select element.
    2. Start "Element Information" (pulldown, Element > Information).
    3. Go to "Geometry" section.
    4. Adjust "Elevation" as needed.

Note: This only works well for "flat" elements.

    Export to 2D
    1. Go to File > Export > 2D
    2. Give the file a name and location.
    3. Click OK.

    Use Civil/Site Tools (Bentley Supported).
    1. Download from the Bentley Library site:

CivTools for MicroStation V8 2004 Edition

    2. Install and run MDL application per instructions.
    3. Start "Set Element Elevation" tool; set desired elevation.
    4. Select elements and accept.

    Notes:
    - The selected elements will move to the desired elevation.
    - Will "flatten" linear and shape type elements.
    - Will not "flatten" 3D elements.

    Use key-in: X Y=#,#,<(><<)>value>
    1. Start Modify Element tool.
    2. Select vertex to change.
    3. Key-in: XY=#,#,<(><<)>desired Z elevation here> [enter]

    Notes:
    - MicroStation V8 2004 Edition only.
    - Useful for changing elevation of a single vertex if used with the Modify Element tool.
