Instead of using the drop element tool on the dimension, turn the extension line off. Go to Element > Dimension > tool settings and uncheck either the right or left extension line.

Problem

In the model layout of the drawing, there are various dimension lines where the dimension extension lines cross. The question is, can a segment be trimmed out of one of the crossing extension line and still retain the dimension association to the object? Currently when using the drop element on the dimension then trim the segment is loses the dimension association.

Solution

Instead of using the drop element tool on the dimension, turn the extension line off. Go to Element > Dimension > tool settings and uncheck either the right or left extension line. The user can go to the Extension line category and uncheck it here and they will also be turned off. Then use the update dimension tool and it will update to reflect that the extension lines are turned off.
