Maximum file name length (65 characters) exceeded. Use configurationvariable to designate path, or rename file. This message is reported when attempting to attach a reference. If Save Full Path is toggled on for the reference file, can not attachreference with path longer path than 65 characters.Product: MicroStation V7/JVersion: 07.00.01.11Area: Reference,
Use a configuration variable to shorten the file name length.Create a Configuration variable using all or part of the reference path:1. Create a new configuration variable.2. Enter the complete or partial path.Example:REF_PATH = C:/alpha/beta/charlie/deltaOption #1:Use the previously created variable for attaching references (with full path):1. Choose "Attach" from the Reference Files dialog box.2. Choose "Select Configuration Variable" from the Directory pull down menu3. Select the previously created variable. The directory pointed to by the configuration variable will open4. Select the desired file to attach. The file will now attach using the previously created configurationvariable instead of the actual path.Example:File name = REF_PATH\reference_file.dgnNote: The File Name field of the reference attachment should display thevariable instead of the path.Option #2:Use the variable for defining reference search paths (MS_RFDIR):1. Edit the configuration variable MS_RFDIR to nest the previously created variable.2. Disable "Save Full Path".2. Attach reference as desired.Example:MS_RFDIR = $(REF_PATH)/Notes:-If done correctly, the path to the file is not lost when the design session is ended and restarted.-The "/" at the end of the path is important, it directs MicroStation to search "in" the destination folder.-For more information about configuration variables and their uses see the MicroStation Administrator's Guide, chapter 4.
