How to change the global origin in MicroStation v8i in a 2D file

      Applies To

      Product(s): MicroStation
      Version(s): 08.11.07.446
      Environment:  N\A
      Area:  Coordinate Systems
      Subarea:  Global Origin
      Original Author: Jon AR

    Background

The Global origin in MicroStation v8 XM is in the lower left corner but in MicroStation v8i is the center of the design file.

    Steps to Accomplish

1- To know where the global origin is set in one file you have to Key-in GO=$ and a message as the image shows will come up.

2- If you want to know where exactly that point is located you have to draw a line and type “p” letter and we will write in absolute(x,y) 0,0 and a line will be drawn to 0,0 point.

3- If you reset the GO in XM is set to the lower left corner (to know the exact coordinate GO=$) but in V8i is set to the design file center.

Imagine your global origin is XY= -2147483647,-2147483647 If you want to set it back to XY=0,0 in the design file center you should draw a line, type “P” absolute 0,0 and you will get a line until that point (0,0), now if you type GO=0,0.

and click at the end of that line you will set the Global origin in 0,0.
