Unable to locate and open seed file required

      Applies To

      Product(s): MicroStation
      Version(s): 08.05.00.64
      Environment:  N\A
      Area:  DWG
      Subarea:  Open
Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group

    Problem

"Unable to locate and open seed file required to open this file. Check
    the MS_TRANSEED configuration variable."
-Error occurs when attempting to open a DWG file.

    Product: MicroStation V8 2004 Edition
    Version: 08.05.00.64
    Area: DWG In/DWG Out,

    Solution

MS_TRANSEED path or browsed path is pointing to an invalid location.

    Possible reasons:
Make sure the browsed path is valid:
    1. Go to MicroStation Manager.
    2. Highlight DWG file to be opened (do not open it yet).
    3. Click "DWG Options".
    4. Locate "DGN Seed File" (should be pointing to a DGN file)
    5. Select the DGN file (the "Browse DGN seed file" dialog opens
    6. MAKE SURE the file is actually in this folder. If the file is not in
th is folder then locate this file or create a new seed file.

    Steps
-This can also be rectified by deleting the dwgsettings.rsc file as the
cause can also be from this file becoming corrupt.
-Since the transeed can be browsed to from the DWG Options, this can
override the path set in MS_TRANSEED variable.

The MS_TRANSEED option in DWG options may be pointing to an invalid
    directory.
    1. Go to Workspace > Configuration > Seed Files category
    2. Look up "DWG Seed File".
    3. Click "Select".
    4. Browse to the location of a valid transeed file.
    5. Save configuration.
