How do I print the 3D content in my design files to a 2D PDF so it is dynamically viewable?

Background

A typical example might look like this:
You have a 2D model that contains your border and then 3D content from another model or design file is referenced into this 2D model. The ability to navigate the 3D content from within Adobe Reader as a PDF is desired.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Produce a model containing the 2D content as required.

  2. Reference in the 3D content into the 2D model ensuring the reference attachment setting 'Plot As 3D (PDF) is selected ( See below image )

  3. Plot using the pdf.pltcfg plot configuration file to produce the pdf.

Alternatively if the 3D content is already attached as a reference, open the References dialog, highlight the reference to affect and select the Plot As 3D ( PDF) option.
