STEP Export not complete. Missing parts.

Problem Description

When I try to export my DGN model the STEP Export will create an incomplete file or it even can´t be imported in products like Inventor. Also a re-import of the created STEP file in a DGN will show a wrong geometry.

Steps to Resolve

  1. Check the working units of the design file, especially the Resolution in Advanced Unit Settings. These are located in the dialog Design File Settings in the pulldown menu Settings. In most times best results are achieved when using a resolution of 1000/Millimeter. Solids Area should be set to a low value for the Kilometers, like 0.1 Kilometers. Changing the resolution will result in a size change of the geometry. It must be rescaled. Changing the size of the Solids Area doesn´t have this effect.
  2. Important is the location of the geometry. It should be near 0,0,0, respectively 0,0,0 in the middle of the geometry.
  3. The geometry should fit to the Solids Area. How to check this is described in the link below (Using the solids working area in MicroStation v8), keyword DGNCUBE. With this tool you can check also 2. Possibly the Solids Area must be adjusted.
