Problem:

Plotting to Port LPT1 generates the following message:

LPT1 This file name is reserved for use by Windows. Choose another name and try again

Solution

The name „LPT1“is a reserved name for the name of a file in Windows (see here). You cannot use this name in a standard Windows “Save Print as” dialog box. Windows detects that this is a reserved keyword and rejects.

You can adress the LPT1 Port when you remove the checkmark in MicroStation
Workspace -> Preferences -> Look and Feel -> Use Windows File Open Dialogs

MicroStation Help

If on (the default), native Windows file selection dialogs are used instead of the product file open dialogs:

If you do not want to remove the checkmark in the Preferences to adress the LPT1 Port, you can change the style of the “Save as print” dialog box using the keyboard shortcut <shift><esc>.
