Elements on reference levels not displayed in master file

 Product:MicroStation
 Version:V8, XM, V8i, CONNECT
 Environment:N\A
 Area:Levels
 Subarea:Level Display

Problem Description

When opening a file that has a reference attached, elements (e.g. text and lines) on some levels do not show. For example, when a Sheet Model has a Design Model attached as a reference and the elements are displayed as desired when the Design Model is opened, but the same elements are not shown in the Sheet Model when they are expected to be. Checking in Level Manager and Level Display, all reference levels appear to be turned on. If the reference file is opened directly, all the elements are displayed. How can these elements be displayed in the master file?

Steps to Resolve

The issue could be caused by a setting/toggle in the Level Display dialog;

  1. Go to Level Display (from menu Settings > Levels > Display)
  2. At the top there is a drop down option (when set to Global Display all levels appear to be turned on)
  3. Change this toggle to View Display
  4. Check if the reference levels in question are turned on
  5. See video attached below showing this...

Global Display controls the display of levels for all views. View Display only controls display for the selected/active view.
