The configuration Variable MS_SPELLINGLANGUAGE has been locked within the Site or System configuration files to BritishEnglish. Changes can be made to the Workspace Preference for Spelling Language which takes control over the locked MS_SPELLINGLANGUAGE. If this configuration variable is locked then the option in Workspace Preferences should not be able to take control. This ability should not be allowed as it provides a user with a method of overriding the locked configuration variable.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open the System level "mslocale.cfg" file for editting in the folder C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\config\. (this could also be performed on the Site level configuration files)
2. Remark out the "AmericanEnglish" variable setting and enter the following:
#MS_SPELLINGLANGUAGE = AmericanEnglish MS_SPELLINGLANGUAGE = BritishEnglish %lock MS_SPELLINGLANGUAGE
3. Open Microstation V8i 4. Open > Workspace > Configuration with the category Spelling 5. Spelling Language or MS_SPELLINGLANGUAGE can be seen with BritishEnglish and an "L" to show it is locked 6. Place the text Colour and Millimetre in an open design file 7. In the Text toolbox select the tool Spell Checker 8. Place a data point or select each item of text to check the spelling 9. They are both coming up as the correct spelling 10. Open > Workspace > Preferences > Spelling and set the Language to AmericanEnglish 11. In the Text toolbox select the tool Spell Checker again 12. Place a data point or select each item of text to check the spelling again 13. They are now both coming up with incorrect spelling
The configuration variable MS_SPELLINGLANGUAGE has never been honoured operationally within MicroStation. It would be suggested to ignore the use of this configuration variable within your workspaces and focus on the operation of the Spelling Language settings within the Workspace Preferences.
Note : The configuration variable MS_SPELLINGLANGUAGE has been completely expunged from future releases of MicroStation.
