Problem

When copying information from a file into a current DGN file.  Information gets placed on the "default" level.

Solution

When copying information from a file into a current DGN file.  Information can become placed on the "default" level.

There are a number of methods to copy the information to ensure it is placed on the correct level:

  1. In order to ensure to place your information to a specific level, set your level by using:
    Key-in: LV=<level name>
  2. Select the required elements, then copy and change the level before placement.
No key-in needed, just select the level from the Level Manager. Then place your elements.
  3. Reference the file containing elements needed to copy, into Master file. Select the elements you wish to copy. Click "Copy" command. Snap (tentative) to a location and accept. Snap to the same location and accept. The Elements will be copied into the new DGN at the same location.
  4. You can also use File > Reference > Attach file (it enables attachment at the proper location). Then highlight that reference file and select

Tools > Merge into Master.

Ensure that there are no scale or rotation factors turned on.  This should merge all graphics.

In MicroStation 08.11.09.459 upwards, the Change Attributes toolbox now contains an option to "Make Copy".

Information on this can be found in the Help under index "Change Attributes" / "Change Element Attributes"
