Using The 400 Grad Angle System In MicroStation V8

    The 400 Grad Angle System

In MicroStation V8 it is now possible to use the 400 grad angle measurement system (also called the 400 gon or centesimal system) in all places and with all tools. The grad angle measurement system is often used in the European mapping and surveying industry.

In MicroStation/J, only the dimension tools supported this system. Along with the major changes in the new MicroStation V8 design file format, this change, (which originates in the old IGDS days) has also been implemented.

You can now use the 400 grad system to place a line with an angle of 50 gon using not only the measurement tools in MicroStation V8, but also when placing text or drawing elements.

It is defined in the DGN File Settings dialog box (MicroStation menu > Settings > Design File). In the category Coordinate Readout, change the Angles Format to Gradiansand Angles Mode to Azimuth.

With these settings, the positive y-ax is the zero direction, and the positive x-ax is 100 grads. When the active angle is used in a dialog box, a "g" is added to the angle to indicate the 400 grad angle system is in use.

Using AccuDraw, you can place lines using this system. Change the AccuDraw mode to Polar by using the spacebar. A horizontal line has an angle of 100 grads and a "g" is added to the angle of the direction of the line.

Depending upon the active command, the active angle is set in the Tool Settings dialog box with either Place Text or Place Cell. In the Active Angle dialog box (opened with the key-in dialog Activeangle),the active angle can be set separately.
