      Subarea: Solar Lighting

    Overview

The Light Manager includes the option to set Solar Position by City, we deliver a default list of cities. This list can be customised to suit your region.

    Method

In your organization's MicroStation configuration add at the appropriate level: Organization, Workspace or perhaps even Workset, depending on your requirements, a statement pointing at an edited settings file. I'll work on the basis of applying the customised file to the whole organization.

The delivered cities file is "C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\Data\globcity.dat".

Copy this file to your configured ...\Organization\Data folder. Do not rename it.

    Edit the file as follows:

The format of this file is simple, each location has:

    • Name
    • Latitude
    • Longitude
    • Time Offset

Simply delete, unwanted entries, cut and paste required entries adding in new entries in this format. The file is simply read from the top down so the order in the file will be the order displayed in the dialog pick list.

To add a city, Bilbao for instance, add:

    Bilbao
    43:15N
    2:55W
    1

The illustration shows a UK and Ireland oriented list:

    Configuration:

    CONNECT Edition

In your organization standards.cfg file add the line:

    MS_DATA < $(_USTN_ORGANIZATION)data/

This directs MicroStation to load your version of globcity.dat first (i.e. ...\Organization\Data\globcity.dat). The delivered file will be ignored.

    V8i

In your site standards use the line:

    MS_DATA < $(_USTN_SITE)data/

Be aware that any other data files you put in the data folder will also be read first, so be aware of any implications and test before deployment.
