Use Named Boundary to place a static attachment

      Product: MicroStation
      Version: CONNECT Edition
      Environment: N\A
      Area: Annotations
      Subarea: N\A

    Problem Description

I want the ability to place a Named Boundary, then assign a Drawing Boundary in a sheet which can view the Named Boundary but remains static even when you change the position of the Named Boundary in the original file.

    Solution

    1. Open Design model which you want to highlight in a Sheet model.

    2. Create a Named Boundary around the area you want to isolate in the Sheet model.

    3. In the tool settings for Place Named Boundary, make sure 'Create Drawing' is checked.

    4. After placing the Named Boundary, a 'Create Drawing' dialog will appear.

    5. In order to place the drawing in the sheet model, you first have to choose the sheet model you want to use. You can either choose 'New Sheet' under 'Sheets:' to force MicroStation to generate a brand new Sheet model (as in the image above) or you can choose a Sheet model which already exists in the file.

    6. If you choose to place the content in the Named Boundary on a sheet which already exists, you can also choose an empty Drawing Boundary on that sheet as the frame which will hold the content. I will use the Drawing Boundary I placed like so.

    7. Click OK in the Create Drawing dialog. MicroStation will automatically create the drawing you requested and either place it in the new Sheet model or the Drawing Boundary you requested. Here is how the Drawing Boundary in the sheet model looks now.

    8. Were I to move the Named Boundary in the main design model and return to the Drawing Boundary in the Sheet model, you can see that the contents of the Drawing Boundary shifted, but the boundary itself stayed in its location.
