Important notice about use of Bentley applications in virtual environments - click here
This FAQ is designed to cover the questions regarding running MicroStation V8i SS2 and later in a Virtualized environment.
See the following wiki page for step by step instructions on setting up and using Citrix XenApp.

So far only Citrix XenApp environment is supported
Usually the version of XenApp supported is listed on MicroStation Readme file on Virtual Environment session.
Some examples below:
MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 13 runs on Citrix XenApp 7.15 64-bit and 7.18 64-bit
MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 12 runs on Citrix XenApp 7.15 64-bit
MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 11 runs on Citrix XenApp 7.15 64-bit
MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 9 runs on Citrix XenApp 7.15 64-bit
MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 3 runs on Citrix XenApp 7.6 64-bit
MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 10) run on same as version SS2, plus Citrix XenApp 6.0 64-bit on Windows Server 2008 R2, XenApp 7.6 64-bit and XenApp 7.15 64-bit on Windows Server 2012 R2
MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 4) run on same as version SS2, plus Citrix XenApp 6.0 64-bit, XenApp 7.6 64-bit and XenApp 7.15 64-bit
MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3) run on same as version SS2, plus Citrix XenApp 6.0 64-bit or Citrix XenApp 7.6 for Windows Server 2008 R2.
MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 2) run on Citrix XenApp 5.0 64-bit for Windows Server 2008.
You will need to check on the Readme file of your version of MicroStation to see what Citrix XenApp is certified to run on.
For other applications, you may need to check with their responsible parties, to verify their certified environments. Usually, on their ReadMe files, you may find your answer..
No. Only versions of MicroStation V8i SS2 and later will be certified. All other versions and environments are not supported. There have been reported success with older versions of MicroStation and certain Citrix applications/configurations. For more information, feel free to search and/or post your inquiry on Be Communities forum (http://communities.bentley.com/).
Citrix XenApp is the only application we support at this time, and the versions will depend upon MicroStation version. See "What versions of MicroStation are supported in a Virtualized environment" above . There are no plans to test MicroStation and/or other Bentley applications on other Citrix versions/applications/configurations. However, you should check from time to time for possible additions to certified environments.
This will depend uppon the XenApp version. Usually, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or higher.
Note: XenApp 5.0 is not currently supported on Microsoft Server 2008 R2.
Installing, configuring, and optimizing performance is supported through the providers of the virtualized solution and/or your IT department.
Issues that relate specifically to functionally within the supported environment.
The number of connections is based on the hardware requirements of Citrix. Bentley has no guidance on how many connections can be made.
This can mean a lot of different things and includes many technologies depending on the type of virtualization. MicroStation was tested and supported through Application Virtualization.Application Virtualization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_virtualization)
The application is delivered from the server to the client at run-time (when the application is started from the client). The application is not "installed" in the traditional sense, but the application will function as if it was.
Citrix Systems, Inc. is an American multinational corporation that provides server and desktop virtualization, networking, software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud computing technologies.Citrix XenApp is an application virtualization/application delivery product that allows users to connect to their corporate applications.
