Not seeing the MicroStation delivered or User defined Display Styles

 Product(s):MicroStation
 Version(s):10.12.00.40
 Environment:N\A
 Area:Graphics Display
 Subarea:Display Styles

Problem

When I open the Display Styles dialog I do not see all my Display Styles and those delivered with MicroStation

Solution

In MicroStation CONNECT Edition the available Display Styles listed in the Display Styles dialog are populated from configured DGNLIB libraries files and those created within the opened DGN file.

1. Check that the variable MS_DGNLIBLIST variable includes the DGNLIB file(s) containing the required Display Styles.

Note: In a MicroStation as delivered Configuration the variable MS_DGNLIBLIST points to the as delivered file DrawingSeed.dgnlib (C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\Dgnlib\DrawComp\en\DrawingSeed.dgnlib) containing the Display Styles.

To do this open the Configuration Variables dialog ( File > Settings > Configuration > Configuration Variables ) search and select the variable MS_DGNLIBLIST and check the paths in the Expansion box.

2. Check to see if the variable MS_DGNLIBLIST_DISPLAYSTYLES has been defined.

If the variable MS_DGNLIBLIST_DISPLAYSTYLES is defined only these DGNLIB file(s) Display Styles will be processed and made available in MicroStation. Other DGNLIB files Display Styles processed by MS_DGNLIBLIST will be ignored.

This is inconsistent with the behaviour of other DGNLIBLIST_<type> variables where pre-pend '<' and append '>' operators can be used to add organisation specific DGNLIBs to delivered DGNLIBs. Bugs 658127 and 1322766 have been filed to address this issue.

If you wish to use MS_DGNLIBLIST_DISPLAYSTYLES please ensure all DGNLIB files required are added to this location specified by this variable.

To check the variable open the Configuration Variables dialog ( File > Settings > Configuration > Configuration Variables ) search and select the variable MS_DGNLIBLIST_DISPLAYSTYLES and see if the Expansion box lists any DGNLIB files.

3. Check the configured DGNLIB files contain the required Display Styles, it may be the Display Style(s) have been deleted.

To do this open the DGNLIB file as if it was DGN file and open the Display Styles dialog, the Display Styles listed bold are contained within this file.

Tip: Move your cursor over the Display Style name in the Display Styles dialog to see where it is located.

4. Check for the configuration variable MS_DISPLAYSTYLES_LIBLIST

Note: This variable was used in MicroStation V8i to define the DGNLIB files to be processed for Display Styles.

If MS_DGNLIBLIST_DISPLAYSTYLES has been defined and delivered Display Styles are not shown

In this context there are two ways to see the delivered MicroStation Display Styles stored in C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\Dgnlib\DrawComp\en\DrawingSeed.dgnlib

  1. Copy and rename the delivered DrawingSeed.dgnlib file to a location and file name defined by MS_DGNLIBLIST_DISPLAYSTYLES.
  2. Add a MS_DGNLIBLIST_DISPLAYSTYLES statement that includes the default location and file.
