    How to find all Named Groups within a Model

    How to find all Named Groups within a Model

    Background

    Having received a file from a third party how can I find all the Named Groups within a file.

    Steps to Accomplish

    OPTION 1 - Using Named Group dialog

    • From the Ribbon open the Named Groups dialog ( Drawing > Home > Groups > Named Groups )
    • In the Named Groups dialog, select all the Named Groups to locate.
      • Select the First Named Group in the list, hold the 'SHIFT' key down and select the Named Group at the bottom of the list
      • Alternatively select a Named Group, hold the 'CTRL' key down and select the other Named Groups required
    • In the Named Groups dialog, select the 'Select Elements in Named Group' tool and optionally use the 'Set Displayset from Selected Named Groups' tool

      

    • Clear Selection / Displayset when finished

    OPTION 2 - Using Explorer Advanced Search

    • From the Ribbon open the Named Groups dialog ( Drawing > Home > Primary > Explorer)
    • From the Explorer dialog select 'Advanced Search' tool
    • On the Advance Search dialogs 'Search for: field choose Named Groups
    • Select ' Group Name ' and 'is not null' and select 'Add to Search' before pressing OK

    • In the Explorer dialog find and select the search 'Named Groups Search Results'
    • Use the Explorer 'Isolate' tool to isolate the elements meeting the search criteria
