Problem Description

In a dgn file, the lightly filled (with color gray) shapes in my drawings will be printed solid black to PDF or on paper.  I've turned on Rasterized and Transparency on Print Setting, but nothing will change. It is sent to print in Monochrome using the pdf driver.

Steps to Resolve

The filled gray shape is identified as color 56 with RGB 210,210,210 - Information from element properties.

The steps are:

  1. In the Print dialog box (or short cut, press Ctrl + P) go to File > select “Edit Printer Driver Configuration”, choose "pdf.pltcfg" (or your own PDF-printer driver configuration file.
  2. In the dialog box click tab > Color Maps
  3. In the Color Maps properties > from the Design Color tab, select the color that you wish to map. Color of the filled shape is listed as color “56”
  4. Click “Edit” > this opens the “Edit Color Map(s)” dialog
  5. Click on the “Print Color” field (or double click) and this will open the “Color” dialog box that will allow you to add and customize your output color for the filled shape listed as “56”
  6. in the right hand side of the dialog box, fill in the RGB value as you desire: 210,210,210 (example)
  7. (optional) you can choose to “Add to Custom Colors”
  8. Click OK, current dialog box will close
  9. In the Edit Color Map(s) dialog box, fill and tick other options as needed: e.g. "Define print transparency", fill in a value.
  10. Click OK in the Edit Color Map(s) dialog box
  11. In the Edit Printer Driver Configuration , go to File > save pltcfg file
  12. In the Print dialog box, go to File and click "Reload Printer Driver Configuration" for effect to take place.
  13. note: No need to use the option "Rasterized"
