File Open - Troubleshooting

 Product(s):MicroStation
 Version(s):23.00.xx.xx
 Environment:N\A
 Area:Open/Save
 Subarea:Not Opening

Problem

There are times when attempting to open a file in MicroStation can be delayed either due to the file, it's location or the application being used to open the file.

Scenario #1

File is located on network. When attempting to open the file MicroStation does not recognize a file protocol on the server, it only reads the file from the location.

A file or any reference or raster attachment might delay the opening of the file.

Solution

Try copy the file locally to see if this improves the performance.

Scenario #2

File is local. Workspace and Workset might be located on network drive.

Solution

Try opening the file with "No Workspace" and "No Workset"

Scenario #3

File is located local with no custom workspace or workset. Go to Task Menu bar, right-click and open Task Manager. Check to see if the MicroStation is in a "Not Responding" state.

Solution

Try copy the file locally to see if this improves the performance.

Scenario #4

Long delay with spinning wheel opening read-only file.

Solution

Set the following variables in your configuration - this will especially help when experiencing the issue with network files.

MS_DGNFILE_OPEN_FOR_WRITE_RETRY_LIMIT
(DGN Open for Write)
If set, shortens delay in opening a DGN that is already open for editing elsewhere.
