How to created a Thematic Display Styles to help visualize the height of your design model.

      Product(s): MicroStation
      Version(s): V8i, CONNECT
      Environment: N\A
      Area: Graphics Display
      Subarea: Display Styles

    Background

Some times it can be difficult to understand the elevation of your design, particularly when viewing your design from the Top, or Isometric view. To help visualize your model a Thematic Height Display Style can be used to display your model in banded colours with each colour representing a different elevation range.

In this example the low lying area can be seen in blue and the high points shown in red, this being useful in determining where water may collect, flood by adjusting the various colours height range.

    Steps to Accomplish

    • The first step is to identify the region of interest.

in this example we have a Terrain element and are interested in visualizing the whole model. (But the Z range could be a smaller portion)

    • Using Element Selection select the Terrain, and in the Properties dialog's 'Raw Data' section note the Range Low / High Z values.

    • Open the Display Styles dialog and select the Display Style Thematic:Height
    • Optional: Take a copy of the Display Style and give it a name 'Example'
    • Select the drop down arrow against the Thematic Display: Height option to access the Settings

    • Enter the Range Low / High values obtained earlier and check each box (Note: Any range could be set).

    • Optional: Adjust the Colours and position along with other settings as required (See Help for further details)
    • Save the Display Style
    • Open the View Attributes dialog and apply the new Display Style 'Example' to the View
