How to change the thickness and pattern of drawing lines when printing to PDF

 Product(s):MICROSTATION
 Version(s): CONNECT Edition
 Environment: N\A
 Area: Print
 Subarea: PDF

Problem

Often the characteristics of the project require manual adjustment of line thickness and style to achieve optimal print output. The following shows how to change the line thicknesses by creating a customised driver (file.pltcfg).

Solution

1 Make a copy of the pdf.pltcfg file, default stored in 'C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\pltcfg'.

2 MicroStation -> File -> Print-> Print dialogue box opens -> File -> Select Printer Driver Configuration -> select the pdf.pltcfg copy you have just created-> open

3 Print dialogue box -> file -> Edit printer driver configuration -> General tab -> change the name of the displayed label (see image below) to make the driver distinguishable from the list.

4 (optional to increase print resolution) From Base Properties Tab->Driver Properties->Precision=Maximum

Advanced > Driver Resolution = Millimetres

In case of issue, find below a useful wiki explaining how to handle point 4:

When creating a pdf with pdf.pltcfg the fonts in the pdf look pixilated and not rendering correctly when zooming into the pdf

5- Modify the print thicknesses:

-Tab Weight Maps-> change the value of Print Width associated to the relevant drawing thickness by double-clicking on it.

6 Change the Line Pattern (if necessary):

 - Tab Line Styles->changes the values in the table "On/OFF Pattern" by double clicking on it->OK

7- File-> Save

8 File->Reload Printer Driver Configuration

8 Print
