Background

This wiki explains how to set up an action string that Prints a Message using the mouse button action type: M, Message

Note that: this only works with certain type of mouse/hardware, for the moment we have only tested on the following hardware: GTCO Ultima and SketchMaster or WACOM PTK-1240 - Intuos 4 XL.

Steps to Accomplish

The test case file can be found at C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation 2023\MicroStation\Default\menus\dgn\v8menu.dgn.
The given syntax can be visible after turning on all levels in Level Display.
Additionally, you need to have a paper menu which looks exactly same as what MicroStation shows in v8menu.dgn.
This paper menu should be inserted on WACOM PTK-1240 - Intuos 4 XL device for this case.
Once the device is attached to laptop by USB cable, key-in: am=v8menu.dgn,command,t1.
Note: Following file wintab32.dll from MicroStation folder must be renamed and WINTAB32.INI must be existed in C:\Windows\ before running MicroStation.
MicroStation will ask you to perform following at the lower left corner of status bar.
1. > Identify menu origin
2. Above action will highlight all menu elements in green color. Enter a data point on the menu origin by using Lens Cursor Mouse. It will ask you the next action.
3. > Identify upper right of <E,MDL SILENTL DGNSET>
4. Enter a data point on the location by using Lens Cursor Mouse. Following, "Menu successfully attached", message will be shown in the status bar. Also, the highlighted menu elements will be cleared.
5. Now, hover over on Polygons > Place Block (from the paper menu that was inserted on the surface of the device) then click command button (5th click - user defined value. Refer to attached image.) by Lens Cursor Mouse.
6. Place Block tool settings dialog pops up. Now you can use your touchpad from laptop to place a block element.
7. Use the command button on Oops from the paper menu which will give you the output of M,MESSAGE.
