Intro/Overview

Some of the more useful features available in MicroStation include the ability to customize drawing seeds to fit organizational standards when using the Detailing tools (Section, Elevation, Detail, etc.).
The following example should serve as a very simple guide when creating these custom drawing seeds.

Example

1. Outside of MicroStation in Windows File Explorer, make a copy of this file:
C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation 2023\MicroStation\Default\Dgnlib\DrawComp\en\DrawingSeed.dgnlib

2. Rename it as needed and place the copy of this file in your project directories where you store other .dgnlib files
3. Set the configuration variable MS_DGNLIBLIST_DRAWINGSEEDS to point to this file (MS_DGNLIBLIST config variable should work too)
4. Open this DrawingSeed.dgnlib copy directly in MicroStation
5. Perform the workflow in the default 3D Design model that you would use to create drawings (Section Cut, Elevation, Detail, etc.) and ensure the Create Drawing option is toggled ON. It would be best to not use a Drawing Seed here (set it to none) as you don't want to mistakenly combine two Drawing Seeds.

6. Change the Drawing model and Sheet models as needed
7. Finish creating the resultant Drawing/Sheet models and conclude the workflow. You should be left with a new Drawing model and Sheet model.

8. Save changes and exit MicroStation

After following these steps correctly, a general end user should be able to use this same Drawing Seed with the specified Drawing/Sheet models during their workflow. Note that the types of workflows will matter in this case (Section, Detail, Elevation, etc.).
