Problem

User has adjusted the Global Display setting of  DWG Reference file Levels using the Level Manager, which display correctly, however if they close and reopen the file the changes made are not being retained. This is despite saving settings and file prior to closure.

Solution

First try the solution found in the Deleting Levels technote:

The ability to save changes to reference file levels might be disabled for the DWG or DGN file. This setting is controlled by either of these key-ins: DWG VISRETAIN <0 or 1> (AutoCAD key-in) or SET REFLEVELOVERRIDES <OFF or ON> ( MicroStation key-in).

In this instance a DGN file has a DWG Reference attached and its the DWG Reference Levels that are not being retained, this is because DWG VISRETAIN is set to 0, thus changes to reference file levels are retained only during the current session

To retain Reference Level changes when the file is closed carry out the following steps:

  1. Open the DGN containing the DWG Reference attachments
  2. Enter the Key-In: dwg visretain 1
  3. Save Settings and Save file
  4. Close and reopen the file
  5. Adjust the Global Display setting in the Level Manager for the attached DWG as required.
  6. Save Settings and Save file
  7. Close the file and reopen to verify saved changes.

Note: If unable to adjust the Reference Levels attributes check the variable MS_LEVEL_EDIT_ATTRIBUTE_LIST
