    Problem Description

    Assigned Material will not render.

    Possible Reasons (By Version)

    MicroStation V8i

    Solution 1: Enable Display Pattern Maps.

    Note: Enables the display of assigned materials in specified views.

    Steps:

    1. Open Display Styles Dialog.
      - Go to: Settings > Display Styles
      - or Key-in: DIALOG DISPLAYSTYLES
    2. Select a display style that has Display set to Shaded.
    3. Check Display Pattern Maps.
    4. Apply this Display Style to the desired view.
      - Double-click the display style name on the left side of the Display Styles dialog.
      - Click in a view to apply the display style.

    Solution 2: Use an appropriate render output.

    Note: Enables the display of assigned materials in a rendered image.

    Steps:

    1. Go to: Tools > Visualization > Render > Render Settings
    2. Select the render setup being used from the left.
    3. Select the Advanced tab > General Settings > Render Output
    4. Set "Color & Alpha" to be the only Render Output enabled.

    MicroStation V8 XM

    Solution: Use an appropriate render mode.

    Steps:

    1. Open the Render dialog:
      - Tools > Visualization > Rendering > Render
    2. Set the Render Mode to a Photo-realistic Rendering Mode such as:
      - Ray Trace
      - Radiosity
      - Particle Tracing
    3. Click in a view to render.

    MicroStation J & MicroStation V8 2004

    Solution:  Enable Pattern/Bump Maps.

    Steps:

    1. Open the Rendering View Attributes dialog:
      - Go to, Settings > Rendering > View Attributes
    2. To display the material in a specific view:
      - Select the view you want the material to render in.
      - Check "Pattern/Bump Maps".
      - Click Apply.
    3. To display the material in all views:
      - Check "Pattern/Bump Maps".
      - Click All.
