This document provides configuration instructions for the Bentley Wintab Driver used with a Calcomp Drawingboard. The Bentley Wintab driver is available from the Bentley FTP site.
The two files (wintab.exe and wintab32.dll) should be unzipped to the ...Bentley\Program\MicroStation directory.
Before you install the CalComp tablet, a mouse must be connected to the computer. If no mouse is present, the cursor will not appear when the Wintab driver is started. Also check for the 25pin bridge adapterthe connection must reduce to a 9pin for MicroStation to recognize the tablet.
When the computer boots the operating system will scan for devices on the serial ports. If a device is found and a service is not loaded, the operating system will sometimes disable the serial port. The Bentley Wintab driver does not deliver a service, therefore the tablet should be turned off when starting the computer. It is possible that you could leave the tablet turned on, as some newer tablets with a Plug and Play BIOS will not cause the port to be disabled.
If you had the CalComp drivers loaded previously, run the CCSETUP.EXE or TW95NT50.EXE program on their installation diskettes. When the installation screen appears, select the Remove option. When the program is finished, restart the computer.
To verify all previous Wintab drivers are removed, search the entire hard drive for the files WINTAB.*, CCNTDRV.EXE, WTCC.SYS and WTCLASS.SYS. The only files you need are WINTAB.EXE and WINTAB32.DLL, which should both be in the ..\ustation directory. Delete any other Wintab files the search finds. If you are using Windows NT, go into the System Control Panel and select the Services and Devices icons. In the drivers list of both Services and Devices look for the following drivers: Wintab, CCNTDRV, WTCC and WTCLASS. If found, disable these drivers and restart NT.
The CalComp tablet must be configured for the CalComp 9100 format, which is required for the Bentley Wintab.
Here are the configuration instructions:
Start the Bentley Wintab Driver (doubleclick the WINTAB.EXE application). At the interface screen select the CalComp DrawingBoards, 9000, and 9100 series for the Tablet. Select the Size, Buttons and COM Port. If the COM ports are grayed out, there is another driver accessing the COM port. Turn the tablet off and reboot the computer. When Windows is finished loading, turn the tablet on and run WINTAB.EXE again. If the ports are still grayed out, double check the "Checking for other Wintab Drivers" step above. When the configuration is properly set in Bentley Wintab, click the OK button to close the Wintab interface. The driver is now configured. Restart the Wintab Driver (WINTAB.EXE) and the tablet should be active.
Note: You can either start the tablet driver prior to entering MicroStation or leave it disabled. If the driver is disabled, MicroStation will automatically load it when started. If MicroStation starts and the cursor is gone, go into a design file and type the DIG PAR command into the Command Window or Key-in browser. You should then see a little + sign; follow the prompts for the lower left and upper right corners.
To configure the buttons on the cursor go to the MicroStation Workspace menu and select the Button Assignments option. The Button Assignments dialog box will open (see Figure 1). With the upper left cursor button in the upper section click on the button name you wish to configure (DATA, TENTATIVE, RESET, COMMAND, etc.). The button name will highlight. After highlighting the appropriate button name, move your cursor to the lower section (Button Definition Area) and press the cursor button you want to assign to the action highlighted above. Place the cursor on the word "here" to make sure you're at the right location. In the top section you should see the "Invoked by" setting change.
Note: The Data button should always be invoked by the Left Button, the Reset button should be invoked by the Right button, and all the remaining buttons should be invoked by a button number (for example, Button 4, 5, 6, ..).
Note: MicroStation Version 5.0 will not display the cursor in the digitizer setup area. The cursor is still active and will function properly when tracing. Elements placed in the digitizing area will display.
