Exporting the Model to be Printed

Most 3D Printers will need an STL or a VRML file for the print model. STL export creates a mesh element with no color.  VMRL export will retain colors and bitmaps assigned to the different surfaces.

    1.       Turn on all the layers of the model that you wish to export

    2.       Start the tool and select the visible model. If a clip volume is active, what is shown is what will be exported.

    3.       Choose where you want to save the file, and the scale to export the model to.  If the model has already been scaled down to a desired size, full scale can be selected.

Optional check of the output by importing:

    • To do a final check the data can be imported into MicroStation, the Mesh Audit tool can be used to check for voids and inconsistent normals.
    • The Measure tools can be used to check the dimensions of the base to insure that it will fit on the machine.
