MicroStation's Workspace default location

 Product:MicroStation
 Version:All versions
 Environment:Windows
 Area:Configuration
 Subarea:Workspaces

Problem Description

Where is MicroStation's Workspace folder?

Reason

Different versions of MicroStation can have different default Workspace installation folders and these also change with the version of Windows in use.

Steps to Resolve

MicroStation V7/J and V8 versions:

MicroStation V7 or /J and v8 will by default install its Workspace in the "Workspace" subfolder of the chosen program installation folder.

If MicroStation default installation folder is not changed, the Workspace location will be:

1. Windows XP/Vista/7/8 32 bits:

        "C:\Program Files\Bentley\Workspace"

2. Windows XP/Vista/7/8 64 bits:

        "C:\Program Files(x86)\Bentley\Workspace"

MicroStation XM, V8i and (Select Series x)

Microstation XM, V8i and (Select Series x) behave differently from the pre-XM versions as their Workspace default installation folder depends on the version of Windows in use but not on its "bit-ness" (32 vs. 64 bits)

1. In Windows XP, both 32 and 64 bits, the default installation folder is:

    "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\"

2. In Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, the default installation folder is

    "C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace"

NOTE: The last part of the folder path will be different for Microstation XM, V8i and (Select Series 1)

NOTE: The "ProgramData" folder is hidden by default in Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, therefore it will  be required to be shown in order to locate the Workspace folder.

MicroStation CONNECT Edition (Update x)

In MicroStation CONNECT Edition the workspace is now called "Configuration" and must be installed on the default location before it can be moved.

In Windows 7 (SP1), Windows 8, and Windows 10 (64bits) the default installation folder is:

   "C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\Configuration\"

NOTE: The "ProgramData" folder is hidden by default in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10, therefore it will be required to be shown in order to locate the Configuration folder.
