[Legion] - Passenger size change during simulation run

Hello! I am wondering if the entity size can be changed during the simulation run. Do you know if this is possible or have you found workarounds?
I was hoping to see more social distancing related discussion on the forum - if I missed a page or a channel, please feel free to send me a link.

Thank you!

  • Hello Olivia,

    Thank you for your question.

Yes, Entity size can be changed during simulation.  To do so, two Entity Types, with the size characteristics needed, must be created first.  Then, a Direction Modifier may be used to change Entity Type, at the desired location.

This can be useful when modelling passengers who drop off luggage, subsequently occupying a smaller footprint.  A social distancing application might be to change a very large Entity Type (defined so as to include a prescribed social distance, for example) into a normally-sized Entity Type, in order for entities to be able to pass through narrow infrastructure, like ticket gates.

Attached is a short mini-model, to illustrate a social distance-related example.  The model is of an ascending escalator, operating across two separate accessible spaces, representing a lower and higher floor.  Entities entering the model are deliberately much larger than normal, to include a social distance.  As they reach the escalator, which they would not be able to enter at social distance size, a Direction Modifier object changes entities' Entity Type to one defined as normal size.  Entities then ascend and on leaving the escalator, cross another Direction Modifier, which changes their Entity Type again, this time back to the social distance size.

Posts about using LEGION for social distance scenarios will be added to the LEGION Social Distance wiki, in coming days.  So, please check there, soon, for related material.

    Thank you and best regards.
