LEGION: Modelling train passengers that simply stay on the train.

Hello all,

Curious on how others model through ridership for their trains  (i.e. modelling the passengers on the train coming into the station that do not exit the train).

Simulating the train using a set of entrances and exits per the Tube Station Tutorial, I used something very similar to model these "staying" passengers. An entrance inside the train creates entities at the time the train arrives. These entities are then delayed with a Delay Point for the duration of the dwell time. They then leave through an exit in that same train thus mimicking the train leaving the station. It works fairly well.

Another idea I had was to simply use a Population Zone in conjunction with a Waiting Zone although this doesn't look as "nice" as the "staying" passengers still appear in the simulation videos despite the train not being there.

  • Hi Dilip,

Thank you for your question. Please advise which LEGION version you are using.
In LEGION Update 2 , Train platform interface modelling functionality is available. There is a provision for defining 'stayers' in Train service dialog as per below snapshot. Stayers are displayed inside the train until train is available and then disappear as train leaves the station in simulator.

    Thanks

  • My software version is CONNECT Edition Update 1 10.1.1.1.

I was getting an error when using MTZs as lifts where the final destination was set using the PTI. I have discussed this with another Bentley colleague before and decided to go back to the old way of modelling trains using entrances and exits.

However, I may try using Level Exits and Entrances to model lifts instead thereby bypassing this error and allowing me to use the PTI again.

    Thank you for the help!
