LEGION: Bi-directional Fare Gates

Is it possible to model bi-directional fare gates without needing to create a control profile?

For example, I have five faregates. Do they need a control profile telling them when each is IN or OUT, or is it possible to set them up as bi-directional and have a focal node linked to all 5 on each side of the gate (i.e. entrance and exiting). Then, LEGION would "figure" out the direction based on the entity that arrived at the gate first on either side?

The reason I ask is that in some train stations, the fare gates are purely bi-directional (thus can be opened from either direction). The direction of opening is based on the pedestrian who slides or taps their card or payment ticket on the fare gate. Depending on what side of the gate they are on, the gate decides which way it opens.

This differs from a set of gates where the direction changes based on the time (e.g. more gates for exiting in the hour where more people are leaving)

Thanks!
