ArcGIS Engine: Background Mapping

If you need an image for your GIS network layer the use the  symbol from above the layer window and include one of the free basemaps from Esri’s ArcGIS Server. You can choose from satellite view to streetmap and some other themes.

NOTE: Besides adding images for your network through the Online Map Data connecting to Server Data (internet/server connection required). The ’Add Data’ button  can be used if you want to add data to maps including Geodatabases, Shapefiles, Layer Files, Rasters.

Adding the ArcGIS server

If not connected to ArcGIS server it will look like this.

• Click on ‘ArcGIS Server’ under ‘Create New Connection’
• In server box type: services.arcgisonline.com
• Click OK (no username or password is required for this service)
