How to Create a Network from Shapefile?

Product(s):Cube
Version(s):6.1 to 6.5
Area:Data Manager

CUBE has its own network file structure (NET) that displays various attributes that are essential in various phases of the modeling process. These files usually originate from a shapefile. If you need to create a CUBE network from a shapefile, then there are a few ways to do this.

Solution

1. Unzip the InputData.zip folder and open up CUBE.

2a. You can go to File > Tools > Build Network from Shape…

2b. Or you can use the Data Manager button located on the upper-left of the CUBE screen to build the network and select Build Network from ShapeAlternatively, you can access the Data Manager window by pressing CTRL + D.

3. A shapefile has already been provided for you (Highway_Network.shp). Load the file and information correctly as shown in the image below. The Build Network from Shapefile (BNFS) tool allows you to create the CUBE network file (NET) as an output. You will need to identify the A & B nodes, directions of the link, and node options. These will vary for each user. For a more detailed description of the BNFS, refer to Cube Base Help > Managing Data > Managing geodatabases in Cube > Build network from shapefile.

4. A successful import operation should have this prompt.

5. Here is the new CUBE network file loaded into the Network Window.
