Cube

Version(s):

6.1 to 6.5

Area:

GIS Window

When working in CUBE GIS or Network Windows, it is possible to save your network changes such as add, delete, modifying elements such as nodes, links in a log file. The log file serves as a record of all the changes you made during the editing session. Thus, you can apply the changes saved in that log file to another network.

Modification log files will capture edits made to the highway network such as adding, removing, and modifying links and nodes. If there are junction data involved, log files will not track this. These would include phasing, lane configuration, etc. In the event legs are added or removed from a junction, you will have to manually check the junction data and update them accordingly.

If the highway network includes a transit network, splitting a link would record the changes to the transit link as well. Hence, when you apply the log file to another network, CUBE will change both the highway and transit line data.

Solution

1. For the first half of the article, we will focus on the GIS Window. Load any highway network from a CUBE database. The example below is of Cubetown with Esri topo map in the background.

2. Begin an Edit session. For this example, modifications were made to the areas in red.

3. When the first change is made, you would be able to save the edit(s) to a log file. This option is accessible from the Home tab > Map Data section.

4. Once satisfied with the edits, make sure to save the edit log and end the edit session.

5. To run the modification log file you just created to another network, first load that network into the GIS Window; preferably a new window. Be sure to select the CUBE dataset and not another layer, e.g. shapefile, Basemap, raster, etc. Doing so would gray out the Play Edit Log option in step #6 when you begin the edit session.

6. Begin a new Edit session and from the Home tab > Map Data section > Play Edit Log.

7. Find the new log file from the appropriate directory and open it.

8. Confirm the operation so it commences.

9. You should receive a window similar to this if the log ran correctly. Click OK twice to close the update windows.

10. The new links will be a different color than the original links. But once you save the edits to finalize the changes, all the links should be the same color.

11. In the Network Window, you can perform the Save Edit Log and Play Edit Log actions in the same area as before (Home tab > Macro section).

12. By repeating the same methodology of the GIS Window for the Network Window, the same results can be achieved.
