LEGION

Value

LEGION's pedestrian simulation solution is based on a unique, in-house, mathematical model of human movement, recognised by users and researchers as more rigorously, scientifically accurate than the best alternative academic and commercial output.  This allows the most reliable virtual assessment of populated environments and infrastructure assets available.  With LEGION, designers, developers and operators of such assets and environments can understand the performance characteristics of their specific spaces and structures, and iteratively optimise them.  This helps to ensure that new environments and infrastructure are fit-for-purpose, and helps extend the useful life of existing ones, so safeguarding and maximising return on capital outlay.

Overview

LEGION offers input preparation, modelling, simulation, analysis and output production of pedestrian movement in a CAD environment.  Its virtual people, known as entities, sample their space and speed preferences from distributions measured from video of real crowds and walkers.  Their aims and objectives are given by users.  The algorithm governing their movement minimises sacrifice in fulfilment of preferences and progress towards objectives.  In executing it each step, while interacting with others and their environment, entities show perception, avoidance, memory, adaptability and other aspects of intelligence.  Moreover, the patterns, structures, flow rates and densities that emerge from their collective behaviour match those found in real crowds.

Independent corroboration from numerous third parties and a 20-year history of projects, worldwide, are testaments to the validity of LEGION’s simulator.  Furthermore, its intuitive visual output supports application to important commercial needs, including:
