Flotation and Upending Analysis Using SACS

Dear sir, I’m new student who is learn about flotation and upending analysis using SACS from Bentley. In my analysis, I got too much error when using this software. The bottom of jacket always touches the mudline when the hook elevate upward. When I decrease the length of string, the jacket will rotate upward and pitch angle will be -100 degree. When I increase the depth of the sea level, the problem is still happen.

And one more thing, this error is always appear in error log

*** error-test is not recognizable

*** error exceeded max iterations for total increment number 1

*** error exceeded max iterations for total increment number 2

*** error exceeded max iterations for total increment number 3

*** error exceeded max iterations for total increment number 4

I hope forum can help me to refine this problem. Thank you.

  • Hi afdal, based on your explanation, i presume it may be due to following reasons. Before that, please do not change the constant parameters of the problem such as water depth. It will make the problem open ended and never derive you any solution. Keep water depth as constant.

    Few of the suggestions:

    1) Increase the number of iterations and tolerances in FLTOPT line of fltinp file
    2) Check whether the members are flooded properly (May be the weight has crossed buoyancy be great bounds)
    3) if Jacket has turned upside down, it may be attributed to wrong assigning of Joints for Global Coordinate (JCKO)
