Towing a JAcket

I have A special Case.- A Jacket being towed into position.I Used Floatation to arrive at the Bouyancy requirements but I am not sure how to check the Tow resistance and sling forces if the Jacket is to be towed into position. Can anyone help me how to model it. (I tried Launch.. but it doesnt help as there is no sling attachment between barge and the Jacket.

  • why not you try to use Transportation Inertia Loading(Tow) type to run the analysis. In this analysis, you must create tow input file using data generator.

In my experienced Launch program is only use to analyze launch of  the jacket and Flotation is use to analysis hook up of the jacket.

  • This is usually performed using Nonlinear time domain motion analysis of two floating connected bodies (the jacket and tug connected via towline). Dynamic analysis of a tow requires information on geometry and mass properties of towed object and tug, towline data (weight, diameter, stiffness, bridle etc) and operational data including information on environmental conditions (wave, wind and current). considerations of Towline stiffness, Mean towing force, Low frequency motions, Short towlines / propeller race, Force distribution in a towing bridle, Dynamics of towlines. I don't think SACS will be able to model this. However MOSES will be suitable for this analysis.
Please refer to DNV RP-H103_2011-04 (modeling of marine operation) chapter 7: Towing. it shall give you a full description of the dynamic model.
