When running an offshore platform pushover analysis I get a consistent error (ERROR-MAX. ITERATIONS EXCEEDED AT PILE JOINT "XX".
I ran the model using pinned connection at the base of the structure and it runs fine, so the error has to do with the soil and the pile. I also changed the displacement convergence requirement, but it does not help much. It seems that the pile has buckled.
I have it set up to continue analysis even if maximum iteration number is exceeded, but I just wanted to confirm this is acceptable. Is this just a regular way to let you know the soil is failing or the pile buckled?
Any input on this matter will be appreciated.
You may like to refer to Section 5 of PSI Manual for trouble shooting. You can improve the chances of convergence by entering 'Y' at column 15 on the PSIOPT line. You can also plot pile capacity using Utilities. You can also create soil plot. You may like to check your structure reaction at the base and compare against pile capacity. If your pile/soil capacities are not adequate, you may like to consider increasing pile diameter or increase penetration depth. If you still have issue, you may like to attach your model input files and run files at Communities Secure File Upload communities.bentley.com/.../7079.be-communities-secure-file-upload or create a service request ticket at connect.bentley.com
