Transportation analysis including weights

I am running a transportation analysis and am using weight cards.  I have included the "INCWGT" card with only one weight from my geometry input file.

It does not include this weight in the load summation.  I've run these before and they worked fine, now there seems to be an issue.

Here is the tow input file, what am I doing wrong:

TOWOPT  MNEC    MP  WPRC                       -1.5YXZ   1.10 DS
INCWGT  0001
MOTION8000                                                                  G
END

  • Michael,

You didn't provide any information about what seems to be the problem. What exactly is the issue you are experiencing? Do you get any errors or warning messages? Do the resulting inertial loading results look incorrect? I don't think anyone can help you judging from just the tow input file.

  • I was having trouble including weights in the tow input file. The tow file I included is what I was running and all the program did was include the self weight and did nothing with the weight. So my question is was what am I doing wrong with the tow input file where it does not include the weight when running. What else would I need besides "INCWGT 0001" to have the weight included in the tow input file for the program to incorporate?
  • Michael,

The above tow input file should be fine as long as you have defined your model input file correctly. It is difficult to say what may be wrong without looking at the model file and run file associated with this analysis, but there are a few things I would check:

    • Check that the name of the weight ID in the tow input file matches the model file
    • Check that the weight ID specified is indeed a weight and not a load condition. Loads may be used to add weight to the structure, but are defined differently.
    • Check that the model file referenced is indeed the model file and not a OCI file with the weight converted into loading
    • Check to see if the Structure Weight *g matches the Heave force in the Dynamic Loading Summation. If these are not the same, then the weight is being considered as part of the tow load case.

If you are still having problems with the tow analysis, I would recommend that you submit a service request and attach the tow input file, the sacs model file and the analysis run file so that a Bentley technical service representative can take a closer look at the issue.

    Regards,

    Geoff

  • I'll bite how do I get a ticket started? When I got to "Support Service Ticket" in the Executive it just sits there and spins and does not connect to jack squat. When I go into "SACS Help" and click send an e-mail to SACS Support it bounces back and says fill out a ticket and get a number.
