MOSES_Vessel turning

Hi, i have a question for MOSES modeling.

Is it possible to simulate a ship moving on a certain(continuous moving - forward afterward lateral turning... of vessel) route using MOSES? I know that modeling of ships with forward or aft velocity in MOSES is possible, but is it also possible to model if the ship is rotating or latral moving?

  • HI YoungMok,

It is so nice to see you here.

Sure, MOSES has been used those kind of analysis.

To simulate vessel turning(or forward what ever), you should add thruster force and rudder to your model and also you also need the sensors to control the motion in time.

Here is some brief logic for the simulation.

    1. Compute hydrodynamic pressure.

    2. Set up an initial condition of the vessel going at constant speed with the command "&instate -vel x y z"

    3. Define propulsion unit.

    4. Set the rudder to some angle.

    5. Define sensor to stop when the roll reaches at some angle(in you case 90 degrees). Here, signal of the sensor should be "Body_angle" and the action item should be "stop_simulation"

    6. Start time domain simulation.

    7. See what is going on. then change things with &connector then restart the simulation with the command "tdom -reset 99999"

    9. Repeat the process as desired.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

    Best regards,
