Hello, everyone! When talking about allowable stress, Safety Factor is introduced. While in offshore engineering, there are allowable stress modifier in API and material factor in NPD. So what is the difference between safety factor and allowable stress modifier or material factor? Are they used in special load conditions?Many thanks!
AMOD - This is special option where the allowable stress for any load case or combination can be modified for the code checking.
For example,
Fy=240
According to API, Allowable tensile stress is 0.6Fy = 144MPa
These values can be modify by entering the AMOD factor.
In Sacs AMOD=1 means, program consider as per code
To my knowledge, safety factor is different, where the loads are increased by factor.
For example, Total Dead weight of the structure are contingent with 20%
This means, in load combination the load factor will be 1.2
Thank you sir
