While I realize features cannot be copied over directly, the area loading features present in STAAD would greatly improve a SACS users ability to load by area and to match weight control data much more easily as well.
STAAD allows for areas or levels to be defined by boundary members (which can be updated if needed) and then allows for an area load to be applied to the enclosed members. Additionally, it does not care if the members are not continuous, it figures out the appropriate member loads anyway. It also allows the users to come back later and redefine the direction of the load (eg. loaded primary steel may run North and South, but a user building a secondary steel model on top of primary framing can change the loading to East and West which refreshes the load and applies it to the newly added secondary steel).
Is this possible to get added to future versions of SACS?
If your loads are mainly weight-based, you could look into use of the Weight Footprint feature offered in SACS/Seastate? I have found it to be quite versatile in my work, especially since it does not require reference to specific model members.- only need to set up parameters to define the area footprint in space as well as the CoG location of the (total) load.
