Rhino Import to Maxsurf

I have created this hull form comprised of NURB surfaces, and when I export it as a Maxsurf IGES file it appears in its entirety in Maxsurf. However, I can not add sections to it in the design grid and it will not calculate the hydrostatics. Without any options to trouble shoot I've hit a wall are there any experts out there who may be able to tell me what i'm doing wrong? Originally I had a trimmed surface for the transom but Maxsurf does not like those, ok fine, I then used a Curve Network. When I zoom in on the transom in Maxsurf I can see that it looks not mated to the other surfaces correctly. I've gone through all similar problems on this forum but I can't find a solution.

Any suggestions?

  • Hi Alex,

Did you try importing this 3dm file or an IGES file. I imported the file (File | Import | Rhino .3dm) with limited issues.

The two things I came across

     - The model came in on the negative side (all CPs were negative offset), so I flipped the surfaces to the positive side (Surfaces | Flip Surfaces)

     - You can either import it with trimming or not. If you import it with trimming, the trimming is static. If you change the hull shape, your surfaces won't line up any more. You can delete the trimming curves by making them visible (Display | Contours | Trimming Curves), select them and press delete. I did this to the attached model and then used MAXSURF trimming.
