I am working in a project "installation analysis of long deep sea hdpe pipeline". The pipe is 3.5km long and some fraction of the pipe are wrapped with studlink chain, for towing of the pipe i am using 2 barges at each end of the pipe, now in order to keep the pipe in horizontal position i need to use some buoyancy floats for which i was using "clump" option with negative value but it is not serving the purpose.
can you please suggest any other option of adding buoyancy floats.
HI Payal,
You give me very few details to work with.
The setup that you describe is in common use. An alternative would be to use the rod element.
Can you tell me why this is not serving the purpose? What values are you checking?
Thank you,
Georgina Maldonado
Hello Mam,
sorry i forgot to mention that i am using the rod element but on using the clump option with negative value it is further bending down.
I am using the difference between the wtplen and displen further i am multiplying it with the length of the fraction of pipe where i need to add buoyancy floats. Is this correct?
Hi Payal,
The -clump option is listed in the list of options that are "generally" available. I understand why you tried to use it.
However, the clump option is not available for use with the rod element.
May I suggest, put a small rod with length = 1 unit and wtplen = buoyancy force in the location you want the buoy. First find the static equilibrium of the floating line. After finding static equilibrium you can do the dynamic analysis.
I hope this helps. Let me know how it turns out.
