I am currently placing topside surfaces to a trimaran model so that the vessel's large angle stability may then be calculated. However, the addition of these surfaces results in a reduction of the calculated hydrostatic displacement in the model. What can be done to stop this occurring please?
Would it help if I attached the file.
Tom
Sounds like a trimming issue.
The hydrostatics are calculated by creating many continuous transverse section around the hull, all along the length. For multihulls, bulbous bows etc it can often be multiple independent sections at each station.
If you have overlapping surfaces, untrimmed regions etc then MAXSURF will struggle to create those transverse sections properly.
In my sketch below I have demihull with an inboard, outboard and deck surfaces coloured red, green and blue. The orange line is how MAXSURF may see the transverse section through the hull, and clearly this isn't the right shape of the hull.
If you trim the overhangs then it will be able to form correctly.

James
I have checked this and resolved any issues however the issue is still persisting
