I am using a basic version of Maxsurf 22. After creating a yacht hull, how do I create a deck and attach it to the hull?
After referring to the User Manual, page 279 explains about going to the Deck Menu. I do not seem to have this function?
I searched on YouTube for a Maxsurf Tutorial on decks, but no joy. Therefore, what is the step by step alternative?
Regards,
JT
James,
Thank you for your assistance. I am just trying out this exercise, but experiencing some minor issues. I think I am not correctly using the functions, I will work things out eventually. The end result shows a whole deck on half of the hull. I just need to find out how to display half the deck when only half the hull is visible?
I will keep trying.
James, I am still struggling with adding a deck to my design. When I use your method 'Extrude Surface' the following image happens, which is not the same as your picture.
It looks like I have a mirror image of the proposed deck. I cannot find the offsets but I start to move the points towards the center as instructed.
After moving the control points to the center, I am left with this image.
This image doesn't look correct. When I incorporate Render the result is the following.
The model shows half the hull which is correct, but the complete deck which is wrong. As Im only suppose to be showing half of the complete model.
Further questions:
1. How do I close the ends of the bow and transom?
2. Will I require the trim function?
Hi John,
Are you modelling this on the Port (-ve offset) or Starboard (+ve offset) side? We normally work with symmetrical surfaces on the Starboard side and mirror them to the port side. You'll find that you can't move Control Points to the negative side for surfaces that have symmetry.
Also, you can Lock surfaces that you aren't working with right now, that way you won't see their control points and won't accidentally move them when trying to edit a different surface.
Also, instead of dragging controls to the centerline, you can set controls precisely to the CL by setting their offset to 0
For hints about forming bow and stern shapes, take a look at some of the sample designs in C:\Program Files\Bentley\Offshore\MAXSURF CONNECT Edition V22\Sample Designs

Hi James, it seems i'm modelling on the port side. I was unaware of the difference and I'm trying to swap the modelling to the starboard side. Which has become a task in itself.....lol
So it seems I have mastered the art of swapping the modelling to the starboard side, also ive reset the Offsets to 0. That was 2 hours and now to look at closing the transom and bow sections. Self teaching is a long and frustrating process. Good job we are all Social Distancing by staying at home.
The training manual for MAXSURF is available in the Files section of this forum.
