Element weight discrepancy between static and dynamic analysis

Hello,

I have a base geometry file for a fixed platform that I am running both a static and dynamic analysis on.

After running the dynamic analysis, I was looking through the "member group summary weight report" section of the results file and noted that the member group weights are different from what is given when I perform a "self-weight" query on the same member groups in precede.  What is the reason for this discrepancy?

  • Are you using any density overrides and/or element weight contingency factors in your Dynpac input file? You should get the same results unless you are overriding the element mass calculations.

  • Hey Geoff,

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm applying a factor of 1.15 to all element weights in my dynamic input file (snip included below).  However, in the example snips from my original post (WH2 member group), this does not match the difference I'm seeing between Dynapac and Precede.

I checked my sea state input file where I define my load cases as well.  There are member overrides, but none that appear to coincide with the difference.

I did a hand calc to estimate the expected weight of one of my member groups and it matched what is given in Precede.  The issue still seems to be with what I'm doing in Dynapac...
