Rendering Issue

When looking at my latest model, after applying render, there are gaps towards the bottom of the hull and overlapping above the sheerline. How can I resolve these issues.

PS: Any news on my further question about the Calculation Window? No reply has been received.

  • It is hard to guess from a rendered image, but I suspect that the control point net is very skewed or possibly even twisted.

    - Try turning on the parametrics Display | Contours | Parametrics, Do the parametric lines go where you expect the surface to go?

    - Take a look at your control point net, does it have twists or overlaps?

It looks like you have a lot of control points around your forefoot. Take a look at the control point layout in the Yacht design quickstart model (File | Design Quickstart) for an example control point layout. Display | Net | Display Net

Sorry - I thought I had replied to your question about the Calculation window saying it was an obsolete feature, included only for backwards compatibility. Let me go and check.

I appreciate your correspondence. During this lock down I have been spending a lot of time using Maxsurf. Self teaching has both been frustrating as well as rewarding. Firstly, I am disappointed to learn the 'Calculations Window' is currently obsolete. It was a feature I was using a lot in the past and found the information very important, this explains why I kept receiving an equation. It would be nice to reinstall this function again?

As for the rendering, I have attached some screen shots from one of my designs. You spoke of the network which I think is displayed in the picture. Towards the bow there is a slight twist but nothing that should make the render spill above the sheer-line? An additional issue, when you look closely at the hull from the front, the hull surface appears like a hexagon shape. The amount of time I've wasted trying to straighten the hull when I probably didn't have too. When you include the shadows back on the model, the lines just appear rounded as I require. So my observation is the rendering issues must be a software problem? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Final thought, I've purchased Maxsurf and by using the program continually, I am able to highlight issues that your able to correct or investigate. My system keeps crashing and I have recorded this within the Bentley Community Forum also, is there anything that can be done with my software?

  • Hi John,

I meant Calculations Sheet is obsolete in the same way that a horse and cart is obsolete. Nobody is stopping you from using a horse and cart, but you'll find its easier to get around on your bike or in a car.

I can't see your images, can you please try pasting them again?
