Can tension in a h_cat be zero ?

In the frequency domain, the tension on h_cat lines showing zero for a 4 point mooring analysis. is it valid? because I provide pre-tension as 1MT (Moses version connect edition 10.10).

  • Hello Georgina,
I'm trying to model a spud with a barge to find out the load coming onto the spud while the spud is lowered as a part of spud mooring analysis.

As I'm new to moses I want to know how to model a spud and connect spud to barge and soil. If possible can you give me specific commands (cif & dat) files where I can get the magnitude of load on spud, that would help me so much.

  • Hi Sai Kumar,

I did not understand your response.  I believe you wanted to put a question mark after the word "much".

You are trying to model a spud with a barge.  It is unclear what is being moored.  Your first statement contains "spud is lowered".  Is the spud also moving?

Please contact me at georgina.maldonado@bentley.com.  Please include your company name and your Bentley account number.

  • Hi Sai Kumar.

I am not understanding your request.  As best as I can figure you are doing a lift analysis.  Please see the example file "sidelift" that comes with the software.  In the version 12 installation the files can be found in the following directory.

    C:\Program Files\Bentley\Engineering\MOSES CONNECT Edition V12\hdesk\runs\samples\how_to

    I hope this helps.

  • Doing mooring analysis using jackup barge cosidering barge spud legs. Already did mooring analysis using only mooring lines, now doing same mooring analysis using spud legs embedded into sea bed

Now i want to know how can we model spud leg below barge baseline to the sea bed. vessel can move in z direction freely. And also help me how to find the loads coming onto spud legs during the analysis?

if possible can you send me speicific commands or refer me any sample cif / dat file related to mooring analysis with spud legs.

  • Hi Sai Kumar,

There is a sample of a jackup with legs that move in the following directory.

    C:\Program Files\Bentley\Engineering\MOSES CONNECT Edition V12\hdesk\runs\samples\ves_mod

You should run the file jh_gen.cif before running jackup.cif.  In the files jackup.cif there are three legs. The three legs are leg_c, leg_s, and leg_p.   You can add the command "&describe part leg_c -move 0 0 -20" for example to move the leg -20 feet from its initial position.  You can do a similar command for the port and starboard legs.

I do not understand your statement, "If possible can you send me specific commands or refer me any sample cif /dat file related to mooring analysis with spud legs."  You said you already did a mooring analysis.  You now want to lower the legs.  What is going to be different between the previous mooring analysis and this second analysis?  The position of the legs require a new approach?  Please be specific.  For example you can say, "I would like a table of the catenary force as the anchor distance from the fairlead increases."  Or, "I would like to know when a designated point goes under water."

    I hope this helps.

  • dear georgina,

im making it simple, i want to do a spud holding analysis where i can get holding capacity of these spuds. Spud holding capacity is carried by considering the self penetration of spud through the soil. I want to obtain the spud forces or you can call it magnitude value in connector forces menu. I want to know what are the specific commands used in CIF file to define the spud in cif file and getting output magnitude step by step/

  • Hi Sai Kumar,

You need to define a connector or connectors between the spud and ground.  There is a directory dedicated to connectors.  Please see the files in the following directory.

    C:\Program Files\Bentley\Engineering\MOSES CONNECT Edition V12\hdesk\runs\tests\conn

The file "spring.cif" shows how to use a gspr to connect a body to ground.  GSPR is short for generalized spring.  The properties of the generalized spring are dependent on the soil properties.  Be sure to set the GSPR to compression only.  In your files the body is the jackup and ground is still ground.

I do not know how to interpret "step by step/",  If you are asking for me to write the command file, that is project support. Please review the guidelines at the below link.  I cannot provide project support.
